Australian Lemon Myrtle Essential Oil

Today I would like to talk about the native Australian Lemon Myrtle Oil.

Many of our Essential Oils are produced in the country they are grown, yet we have some that are native to our country and have been used for many years.

One of the few plants for oils grown in the Nimbin area is the certified organic Lemon Myrtle Oil.

Paul and Jenny have established their farm some 40 years ago and the main species they have is Backhousia Citriodora. They have lovingly nurtured the plants from seedlings to fully mature trees, and the essential oil has been distilled on the property since the beginning.

Most commercial Lemon Myrtle Oils are distilled from the stems and small branches and the leaves are taken off and sold for the popular and more valuable tea.

On this farm, ALL of the plant is distilled, which gives it a much sweeter and richer smell.

The way the stems and leaves are harvested is staggered, not all the material is taken every year. Most plants are only cut every three years, giving them a chance to grow into healthy mature trees.

All the work on the farm is still done manually, and they are organically certified.
