Stinging Nettle Infused Oil
Available in 200ml, 500ml, 1 Litre and 5 Litre.
Urtica dioica
Organic Stinging Nettle leaves and root, infused in cold-pressed Australian sweet almond oil. We use both leaf and root — the root is especially hard to source — both naturally rich in antioxidants and nutrients.
Handmade in our own Murwillumbah, NSW factory.
Nettle has a long history of traditional use — as a cooked leafy green and herbal tea, spun into cloth and rope in parts of pre-industrial Europe, and used in hair rinses and topical herbal preparations for centuries.
Modern research is taking a closer look at nettle itself. A 2025 study published in BMC Plant Biology tested nettle ethanolic extract and nettle smoke against Varroa destructor — the parasitic mite responsible for major losses in honeybee colonies worldwide — comparing both to formic acid, the commercial standard treatment.
Nettle-based treatments achieved mite suppression comparable to formic acid, while causing lower bee mortality and less oxidative stress in the treated colonies — pointing to nettle as a promising, eco-friendly option for sustainable Varroa management.
GC–MS analysis of the nettle extract identified several bioactive compounds likely responsible for these effects, adding to a growing body of research into botanical alternatives for beekeeping and pest management.
Note: this research relates to nettle extract and nettle smoke specifically, not to nettle-infused oil.
