Palmarosa – Cymbopogon martini
Known since ancient times Palmarosa is a tufted grass from the same aromatic family as Lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus) and Citronella (Cymbopogon nardus). Originally from India it was traded through Persia and then to Constantinople, where it became known to European traders as Turkish or Indian Geranium Oil.
The perfume is sweet, grassy with a floral, rosy fragrance.
It has a calming and uplifting effect on the emotions and helps to reduce stress, nervous exhaustion and anxiety.
Palmarosa is the finest essential oil for all skin types. It is antiseptic, has moisturising properties, stimulates cell regeneration and regulates sebum production. It is recommended as a treatment for problems such as acne, dermatitis, eczema, rosacea, scars, sores and skin infections.
It is used widely in perfumery and soap-making as, unlike other oils, it retains its perfume. In India the oil is massaged into the joints to alleviate the pain of arthritis and rheumatism, as well as general muscle aches, making it ideal to mix into your massage blends.
Use it in massage, compress, bath and skin care or a few drops in your diffuser. Palmarosa is non-toxic, non-irritating and non-sensitising though we recommend skin patch testing and using no more than 6% in your topical preparations.
So there you have it, just some of the amazing qualities of this wonderfully versatile Essential Oil.
We love it and know you will too.
